What are my obligations?
If you are contacted by the Commissioner or otherwise become aware that an investigation is being conducted, we strongly recommend that you complete our interactive online training to learn about your rights and responsibilities. The training will make you aware of your rights and responsibilities during an investigation, and help you avoid committing an offence.
If in doubt, remember the following three principles:
- In most cases, it is an offence not to provide information or access to premises at the request of the Commissioner. It is also an offence to provide misinformation, or to leave out relevant information.
- You should keep any requests for information confidential, including from your supervisor, your family, and your friends.
- You can seek confidential legal advice from a lawyer if you are unsure about your rights and responsibilities.
