Open Days - August 2010
Three of Darwin’s most well-known and recognisable buildings – Government House, Parliament House and the Supreme Court – are opening their doors to the public from 27 to 28 August.
People will have the chance to stroll through the beautiful gardens of Government House, learn more about the inner workings of Parliament House and explore the court rooms, holding cells and works of art within the Supreme Court.
There will be a range of events across the weekend, including music, historical displays, guided tours, information sessions and forums...more

Penalties Bill
The Government recently passed the Justice Legislation Amendment (Penalties) Act 2010 (the Act)
Courts impose penalties as punishment when an offender is found guilty of an offence. Penalties could be in the form of a term of imprisonment or a fine. The way fines for offences are expressed is changing from dollar amounts to penalty units.
The changes come into effect on 1 July 2010, when the value of a penalty unit will become $133. You can calculate the dollar value of a penalty by multiplying the penalty units by $133 (this is a maximum penalty only - the court decides what actual penalty to impose, based on the offence)...more

Two ‘Forgotten Ones’ finalists in Territory film festival awards
Two inmates of Darwin Correctional Centre (DCC) have been short listed for a Galah Award for their depiction of the Forgotten Ones.
